Steph Carter graduated with a B.Sc in Biochemistry in 1981.
Professional career 
Steph Carter first worked as a graduate trainee brewer for Scottish and Newcastle Breweries plc in the UK. In 1985 Steph left the brewing Industry and joined Bristol Myers (later to become Bristol Myers Squibb) at their European personal care plane in the north east of England. For 4 years he was responsible for bulk manufacture of Hair colourants, shampoos, and conditioner, anti-perspirants, shaving soaps and Household cleaners before transferring to lead Packaging development for 3 years before becoming site HR manager for the Bristol Myers factory for 6 months.
Steph Carter joined Unilever in 1992, first as UK Company Packaging manager for the personal care division of Unilever, then as Deodorants Packaging development manager for Europe, and in 2005 as Deodorants category Packaging Director, responsible for the design and development of Unilever’s Deodorant packaging globally.
In April 2007 Unilever, Steph Carter became Packaging Sustainability Director.
