Mr Schmit studied Science and Technology for environmental protection at the University of Paris VII and received his Masters in 1983.

Professional career
Mr Schmit has been the Director of the Administration of the Environment since 2005. He began his professional career in 1983 as an Environmental and Occupational Health Specialist in the environmental unit at Dupont de Nemours in Luxembourg. He joined the Administration of the Environment of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, as the Head of the Waste Management unit in 1985.
