Personal details
Dr Ackermann holds a degree in chemical engineering from the Technical University of Dresden. He also obtained a PhD on “Development of generally utilisable life cycle inventory modules – Case study: Processing of used plastic material collected by the Dual System Germany (DSD)”.
Professional career
Dr Ackermann first worked as a production engineer in VEB Elektrokohle Lichtenberg and then joined the Institute of Geography and Geo-ecology where he developed environmental protection strategies for certain regions and branches of industry, investigated waste disposal and recycling alternatives, and offered scientific assistance for the implementation of new recycling technology and the realisation of material cycles.
In 1992, he joined an engineering consultancy before going back to academia. Since 1994 he has been Assistant Professor in the Technical University of Berlin, at the Department of Systems Environmental Engineering. He is in charge of adjusting existing galvanic and textile plants to a material minimised process technology, the development of recycling strategies for pharmaceutical packaging, aluminium beverage cans and plastic waste.
