Annette Schäfer holds a PhD in Chemistry.

Professional career
Since 2002 Annette Schäfer has been working for the European Commission in the area of food contact materials. Since 2006 she has been the responsible desk officer managing legislation and developing new European legislative initiatives as regards the safety of food contact materials. She coordinates relations with Member States, industry, research organizations and EFSA on this subject. Before joining the European Commission, she worked in academia.
